Cornwall, Countryside Days & the Quiet Rhythm Behind My Work

There’s a particular kind of quiet to mornings here in Cornwall that settles into everything. Even on the busiest weeks, the day starts gently — a slow shift in the light, the fields just beyond the window, the farm dogs wandering past on their morning rounds.
Most days begin in my little home office with a cup of tea and a fresh page in my notebook. It’s where I answer messages from couples, scribble down ideas for upcoming weddings, and get my head around the week ahead. The countryside just outside the window always feels like a grounding presence — calm, steady, and wonderfully unhurried.
The soft start before the flowers

When I step into the studio, the rhythm shifts slightly. Buckets fill up, tools are laid out, and there’s usually a dog curled up somewhere pretending to supervise. I often crack the window open even in winter — that fresh air drifting through does wonders for keeping the space feeling alive.

There’s something about working in a place that sits right in the middle of countryside life. The quiet hum of the farm, a tractor rumbling past, the weather doing whatever it likes… it all becomes part of the backdrop of my day.
How this place shapes the flowers

The landscape here has its own gentle influence on my work — muted tones, soft textures, shapes with a bit of ease to them. I find myself reaching for palettes that echo the seasons outside: greens with depth, gentle pinks, warm neutrals, little gestures of movement that feel natural and unforced.
It’s a simple rhythm, but I honestly love it.
And if you’re planning a wedding in Cornwall or Devon, I hope your flowers feel as though they belong to this part of the world too.
